During my Marine Corps career I spent a great deal of time in Asia. This opportunity allowed me
to gain an appreciation of Oriental art. The links here are provided in an effort to give you a starting point
for these subjects.
Especially UKIYO-E, Japanese woodblock prints. It was once explained to me that UKIYO-E were in 17th - 19th century
Japan what posters are in America today. Please explore the links below to see examples of these very expressive
works of art.
I'm also fascinated by Samurai. So there are links here that will provide you with fantastic images of Samurai.
I collect Netsuke. A form of miniature sculpture from Japan. Made chiefly of
ivory, bone, and wood. They were also made of a wide variety of other materials. Netsuke were both functional and
forms of art. Silk cord running through them they were used as a kind of knot to secure bags or pouches. I hope
to post some pictures of my Netsuke soon. |
